40s Emotional Balance

Feb 3, 2026Blog, Kinesiology

There are many aspects of physical well‑being: healthy eating, exercise, gut health, hormones, setting boundaries, and making time for self‑care. But we are not just physical beings.

We are also emotional and spiritual beings — and we cannot flourish if those parts of us are neglected.

The Health Triangle: Why emotional & Spiritual Care Matters

In kinesiology, we talk about the triangle of health, which consists of three equally important sides:

  • Physical health
  • Emotional health
  • Biochemical health

When one side is out of balance, the entire triangle becomes distorted. Most women focus heavily on the physical — eating well, moving their bodies, getting enough sleep — but rarely stop to think:

How is my emotional health?
How is my spiritual health?

Neglecting these two areas leads to emotional exhaustion, irritability, overwhelm, burnout, and a sense of misalignment. But the good news is that balance can be restored — gently, intentionally, and without adding more stress to your already full life.

In this post, I’m sharing the four emotional and spiritual self-care strategies that have transformed my own life and that I use with my clients.

1. Daily Prayer and Scripture: My Non Negotiable

This is the part of my day I cannot live without.

Spending time in God’s Word and in prayer is life‑giving, grounding, clarifying, and deeply healing. His Word is filled with guidance, wisdom, promises, and comfort. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally drained, scripture centers me.

Prayer is where I can be unfiltered, raw, and honest. No masks. No pretending. Just me.

2. Kinesiology: Resetting the Emotional System

As a kinesiologist, I’ve seen firsthand how profoundly this modality can transform emotional well‑being. Kinesiology supports the entire health triangle — restoring balance in the physical, emotional, and biochemical systems.

Many women carry emotional baggage from their 20s and 30s. But in our 40s, we reach a point where we just can’t carry it anymore. And we shouldn’t.
The important thing is to recognise that help is available, and that you can get help. Kinesiology is not the only modality that can help reset your emotions, but it is by far my favourite.

3. Protecting Your Heart: Guarding Your Energy

For most of my life, I absorbed everyone else’s emotions. I gave my power away. I let people steal my joy — not because they took it, but because I handed it over.

Hitting 40 was a turning point.

I realised:
I control my joy.
I choose my reactions.
I decide where my energy goes.

And you do, too.

Protecting your heart means:

  • setting boundaries
  • choosing how you respond
  • deciding what you allow into your emotional space
  • not engaging with negativity
  • choosing peace over drama

One simple way I guard my heart is by keeping a gratitude journal. Gratitude shifts my perspective and keeps me focused on abundance rather than lack.

A grateful heart has very little room for negativity.

4. Caring for Your Body to Support Your Emotions

It may surprise you, but emotional and spiritual health is deeply connected to physical well‑being.

When you:

  • eat nourishing food
  • exercise
  • hydrate
  • rest
  • support your hormones

…your emotional capacity expands.

When you’re physically depleted, it’s much harder to manage emotions, set boundaries, or guard your heart. A tired body creates a fragile emotional state. A strong, nourished body creates resilience.

Physical self-care is emotional self-care.
